ROBBERY: Northern District -- A woman was robbed by two men, one with a handgun, after she accepted a ride. The victim told police that when she and her cousin were getting out of the car in the 2800 block of Virginia Ave. around midnight Tuesday, one of the men pulled out what appeared to be a 9mm semiautomatic and demanded her jewelry. The woman told police the men drove off after she gave up a set of earrings, two rings, a necklace and her leather coat. Police said the property was valued at nearly $1,500.
ROBBERY: Northern District -- A woman walking in the 900 block of Belgian Ave. early yesterday was approached from behind by a man who stole her purse, which contained cash and property valued at more than $120.
THEFT: Northern District -- Property valued at nearly $600 was reported stolen from a pickup truck while it was parked in the 2700 block of Loch Raven Blvd. The owner of the vehicle told police the thief entered the truck by opening a door and stole a heavy-duty electric drill and several drill bits.
BURGLARY: Northern District -- A resident of the 400 block of Evesham Ave. reported that someone entered her apartment yesterday and stole a microwave oven and other property. Police said entry was gained by forcing a door and that the property was valued at $400.
BURGLARY: Northern District -- Property valued at more than $800 was reported stolen from a dwelling in the 900 block of Cator Ave. yesterday after someone entered by forcing a basement door. Police said the intruder ransacked several rooms before stealing a VCR and a watch.
BURGLARY: Northern District -- Jewelry and a VCR were stolen from a dwelling in the 5100 block of The Alameda yesterday after someone got in through a side door. The occupant of the house told police the property was valued at more than $5,000.
THEFT: Northern District -- A resident of the 600 block of Homestead St. told police that a man who rented a room from him stole blank checks between Jan. 3 and Tuesday and cashed several of them for more than $500. Police said the victim was advised to seek a warrant for the boarder.
THEFT: Northern District -- A student at Johns Hopkins University in the 3400 block of N. Charles St. told police someone stole books and a checkbook from his locker at the school. Police said the property was valued at nearly $140 and the locker had no door. In an unrelated case, a school official reported that someone broke into a storeroom inside a school office and stole a radio and a compact disc player, valued at $300.
THEFT: Northern District -- Someone broke a window to enter a car parked in the 400 block of E. 30th St. yesterday and stole a down jacket that the owner of the car, an out-of-town resident, told police was valued at $100.
BURGLARY: Southwestern District -- A resident of the 3300 block of Walbrook Ave. reported that someone broke into his home through a side window Monday night or Tuesday morning and stole a shotgun and stereo equipment valued at more than $2,000.
BURGLARY: Southwestern District -- Employees of the Poplar Grove carryout restaurant in the 1800 block of Poplar Grove St. reported that someone entered the business through the roof Monday night or Tuesday morning and stole property valued at more than $200, including cartons of cigarettes, coins and a telephone.
ROBBERY: Eastern District -- Two thieves, one carrying a handgun, stopped a man in the 1800 block of Federal St. early yesterday and robbed him of $40. The victim told police the two men drove off in a red Toyota.
BURGLARY: Eastern District -- A resident of the 2000 block of Ashland Ave. reported that someone broke into her home Tuesday and stole a TV, gold ring with diamonds and a gold herringbone necklace, all valued at more than $1,000.
SHOOTING: Eastern District -- Police said a 27-year-old man was in critical condition today at Johns Hopkins Hospital after he was shot in the face Tuesday night in the 1700 block of Crystal Ave. Police said the victim, Tyrone Hearn, was unable to tell police who shot him or why.
ROBBERY: Eastern District -- A collector for the United Insurance Co., in the 700 block of W. 40th St., told police he was in the 2700 block of E. Biddle St. shortly before 1 p.m. yesterday when a man with a revolver robbed him of $200 in cash and escaped on foot.
ROBBERY: Eastern District -- Two men, one with a handgun, stopped a man walking in the 1900 block of N. Washington St. around 5 p.m. yesterday and robbed him of $20. Police said the gunman then struck him over the head with the weapon and the thieves escaped on foot.
BURGLARY: Eastern District -- A resident of the 600 block of St. Anns Ave. reported that someone broke into his home yesterday and stole property valued at more than $1,700. Police said the burglar got in through a front window and escaped with a TV, VCR, power saw and several hundred dollars in cash. Police said a male resident of the 300 block of E. 22nd St. is being sought in the break-in.
BURGLARY: Eastern District -- Property valued at $800 was reported stolen from a dwelling in the 1200 block of Valley St. yesterday after someone forced a door. Police said the intruder stole a 19-inch TV and a VCR with a remote control device.
ASSAULT: Eastern District -- Police were seeking a 41-year-old man for a Jan. 11 assault on a man in the 1700 block of E. Eager St. They said the victim was attacked by a man who struck him several times in the head and upper body with an iron pipe. Police said the victim was unable to make a report earlier due to being hospitalized with serious injuries that resulted in the loss of his right eye.
BURGLARY: Northeastern District -- A resident of the 5500 block of Whitby Road reported that someone broke into her home yesterday by forcing the rear door and stole a TV from the bedroom and a telephone from the kitchen. Police said the property was valued at more than $300.
THEFT: Northeastern District -- Someone entered a dwelling in the 5900 block of Daywalt Ave. and stole jewelry valued at nearly $700 from a bedroom dresser.
ROBBERY: Western District -- A man walking in the 1600 block of Presbury St. early yesterday was attacked by several youths who knocked him to the pavement and robbed him of his watch and hat, valued at more than $70.
ROBBERY: Western District -- Two men, one carrying a handgun, accosted a woman Tuesday night as she walked in the 2500 block of Eutaw Place and forced her to give up her purse, which contained cash and property valued at $50.
ROBBERY: Western District -- A man walking in the 300 block of N. Stricker St. yesterday afternoon was stopped by a man armed with a knife, who robbed him of $30.
Baltimore County
ROBBERY: Wilkens District -- A driver for Domino's pizza was making a food delivery in the 200 block of Hazel Ave., Lansdowne, shortly after 6 p.m. yesterday when he was stopped by a man with a handgun who robbed him of an undisclosed sum. Police described the robber as in his 20s, wearing a black cap and an Oakland Raiders jacket.
ROBBERY: Towson District -- A man entered the Sizzler restaurant in the 5800 block of Loch Raven Blvd. shortly before 6 p.m. yesterday and ordered an employee to open the cash register and give him money while implying he had a weapon. After taking an undisclosed sum, the man fled out the front door. Police said he was wearing a tan coat, black cap, T-shirt and blue jeans.
Anne Arundel County
ROBBERY: Brooklyn Park -- A man wearing a beige sweater and blue jeans came up behind a 39-year-old woman Tuesday as she walked toward a dentist's office near the intersection of 5th Avenue and Ritchie Highway and stole her purse, which contained cash and property of unknown value.
BURGLARY: Pasadena -- A resident of the 8900 block of Fort Smallwood Road reported that someone broke into his home through a door and stole a handgun valued at $200.
Carroll County
ARRESTS: Finksburg -- Police yesterday morning arrested two men and charged them with breaking into a grocery store on Littlestown Pike and two counts each of auto theft. Police said Trooper 1st Class Michael Vanek observed the men about 3:30 a.m. driving a Volkswagen pickup truck east on Md. 140 at high speed. Trooper Vanek gave chase and caught up with the vehicle on Cold Saturday Drive, where the occupants jumped out and fled. After a brief foot chase, police said, Trooper Vanek caught the driver of the truck, Randolph D. Anderson, 25, of Randallstown. Trooper 1st Class Leonard Lucas caught the passenger, Chris Lee Mathias, 20, of Reisterstown, near an Exxon station. Police said they believe the pickup truck had been stolen after the men abandoned a stolen Nissan Sentra in front of the J.J. Gloss appliance store in Finksburg shortly before the chase. Police said groceries found in the pickup truck and the Nissan were traced to Feeser's Fruit Market on Littlestown Pike, which had been broken into. Police said both men were charged with the burglary of the store, two counts of auto theft, and destruction of property. Police said Mr. Anderson also was charged with driving while intoxicated, possession of marijuana and attempting to elude police. Mr. Anderson was being held at the county detention center in lieu of $75,000 bail and Mr. Mathias was being held in lieu of $60,000 bail. Each was to appear today at a bail review hearing before a District Court judge.

BURGLARIES/ARREST: Savage -- County police said a Glen Burnie man remains in custody today at the county detention center after his arrest over the weekend in connection with a series of break-ins in Savage. Officers responding to a report of a burglary in the 8800 block of Baltimore St. were investigating the incident when they were informed of an attempted burglary in the same block a short time later. A search of the area by several police officers resulted in the arrest of a man as he stood at the window of a home. Police searched him and found a pair of gloves, flashlight and a knife. Also found on the man was jewelry taken from the home in the 8800 block of Baltimore St. and a watch that had been reported stolen in the burglary of a home in the 8400 block of Savage Guilford Road on Jan. 12. Police said Leonard Joseph Maus Jr., of the 6400 block of Mount Vernon Lane in Glen Burnie, was charged with two counts of breaking and entering, theft and being a rogue and vagabond. Following an appearance before a District Court commissioner, Mr. Maus was ordered held in lieu of $225,000 bond.
BURGLARY: Columbia -- Employees of G.C. Industries in the 9000 block of Mendenhall Court reported that someone broke into offices there and stole two computers and two printers. Police said the value of the equipment was not immediately known.
BURGLARY: Columbia -- Residents of a dwelling in the 6100 block of Devon Drive told police that someone broke into the house and stole several pieces of stereo equipment. Police said entry was gained by forcing a basement window.
BURGLARY: Ellicott City -- Several pieces of jewelry were reported stolen after someone gained entry into a house in the 11600 block of Vixens Path. Police said the thief got in by kicking in a kitchen door.
BURGLARY: Marriottsville -- Someone entered an unlocked outdoor storage shed in the 1700 block of Henryton Road and stole a chain saw, lawn tractor and an electric hedge trimmer.
