Pasadena man killed in motorcycle accident

A 28-year-old Pasadena man was killed early today when the motorcycle on which he was riding the wrong way on Ritchie Highway in Glen Burnie struck a car.

The victim, Richard Joseph Leyendecker of the 1700 block of Bayside Beach Road, died at the scene of the 2:30 a.m. accident, Anne Arundel County police said.

Investigators said Mr. Leyendecker was not wearing a helmet and was speeding. Police could not say how fast Mr. Leyendecker was traveling.

Police said the victim was traveling south in the northbound lane of Ritchie Highway near Eighth Avenue when the driver of a Ford Bronco saw him crest a hill.

The driver of the Bronco, John Vincent Kakuk, 28, of the 100 block S. Meadow Drive in Glen Burnie, attempted to swerve to the right to avoid a head-on collision.

The motorcycle then struck the Bronco on the driver's side, causing the Bronco to overturn. Mr. Leyendecker was thrown from his motorcycle, police said. Mr. Kakuk, who was wearing his seat belt, was not injured.
