Baker, Ali and Stone will get awards at King ceremony

New York -- SUCH WIDELY divergent recipients as Secretary of State James Baker, former heavyweight boxing champion Muhammad Ali and film director Oliver Stone will be honored tonight in the Martin Luther King commemorations at the Sheraton Center in Manhattan.

The tribute to the civil rights leader was organized by the Congress of Racial Equality, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. About 2,300 guests are expected to attend the reception and awards dinner, including ambassadors or other representatives from 82 countries.

Mr. Baker, the guest of honor, is to receive the organization's highest distinction, the International Brotherhood Award. Mr. Ali will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award, and Mr. Stone, the Creative Achievement Award.
