Randallstown's early start pins loss on Perry Hall Wrestling

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Perry Hall wrestling coach Al Miller saw his seven-match undefeated streak end in a loss to Randallstown yesterday -- and it was a familiar scene. The Rams were the only team to defeat Perry Hall last season, too.

Randallstown defeated the Gators, 45-20, on five falls and is the only undefeated team in the county.

"Overall, I'm disappointed in the first five matches," said Miller. "We needed those wins and we are missing three starters."

Randallstown got three consecutive pins and won four of the first five matches.

"I think we basically out-wrestled them," said Randallstown Jeff Langrehr, who is a cousin of Miller's. "We won it in the middle weights. The middle weights were even on paper, but the Rams made their big surge in the lighter weights."

First-year wrestlers Wayne Lucas (112) started the scoring off for the Rams (7-1, 7-1) with a pin of Tommy Fong with 51 seconds left in the third period. Lucas was followed by Aaron Grollman (119) and Justin Grodnitzky (125) with pins. The three consecutive wins gave Randallstown the lead for good.

Mike Jenson (171), ranked No. 1 in the state, pinned Roger Shunnarah, and heavyweight Eric Gertner pinned Chris Huth.

"I was real positive about the match," said Jensen. "We have a lot of potential on the team."

Perry Hall won the first match, with Steve Boothe (103) pinning Eric Alston with 1 minute, 19 seconds left in the first period. The middle weights mostly went to the Gators, with Nick Countalis (140) and Joe Farinetti (145) winning decisions.

"The win was a big one for us," said Langrehr. "We beat one of the big powerhouses in the county. Now I hope to build one of my own."
