EMMITSBURG -- Dan Whelan, hired by Mount St. Mary's last summer as an assistant lacrosse coach, was named head coach at the school yesterday.

Whelan, a starter on four national championship teams at Hobart from 1982-85, spent the past two years as an assistant at his alma mater. He replaces A.J. Russo, who resigned.
