Voter registration deadline nears

THE BALTIMORE EVENING SUN

The deadline for registering to vote in the March 3 presidential primary election is 9 p.m. on Feb. 3.

U.S. citizens who are at least 18 years old and state residents can register by obtaining applications from local election offices or the State Administrative Board of Election Laws in Annapolis.

Registration forms also are available at offices of the state's Department of Health, the Social Services Administration, Motor Vehicle Administration, post offices, libraries, local schools and community colleges.

Completed voter-registration applications will be accepted by mail after the deadline if they are postmarked no later than Feb. 3 and election officials receive them by 4 p.m. Feb. 5.

As of Dec. 9, election officials said, 2,105,631 people were registered to vote in Maryland. Of the total, 1,316,741 are Democrats, and 620,080 are Republicans. The rest are not affiliated with either of the major parties.
