WASHINGTON REDSKIN coach Joe Gibbs' team is heading to its fourth Super Bowl in 11 years.

It will be the Redskins' high-powered attack against the suddenly revived Buffalo Bills' defense in Super Bowl XXVI in Minneapolis on Jan. 26.

The Redskins pounded the Detroit Lions 41-10 in the NFC championship game yesterday at RFK Stadium. Punishing defense pushed the Redskins ahead early, and two picture-perfect touchdown passes by quarterback Mark Rypien in the second half put the game out of Detroit's reach a good 45 minutes before it was over.

In Orchard Park, N.Y., in the AFC title game, the Buffalo Bills' linebacker Carlton Bailey, a graduate of Woodlawn High, ran a deflected John Elway pass back for a touchdown that broke a scoreless tie and helped the Bills outlast the Broncos, 10-7, to earn a Super Bowl berth. The Bills will be returning to the championship game a year after dropping a 20-19 decision to the New York Giants.
