MURDERER GETS 30 YEARS

A Carroll man convicted of killing a school security guard has received the maximum sentence of 30 years in jail.

Judge Albert BrennanSr. said Monday that he wished Harvey Allen Teets Jr.'s prison cell could be papered with photographs of the battered body of Kimberly Kenna, who was killed in her guard shack at St. Timothy's School in Baltimore County Feb. 22.

"I wish I was somewhere else when it happened; I wish it was me instead of her," the Manchester man, a former groundskeeper at the school, told the judge. "I'm sorry. That's all I can say."

2 ARRESTED INDRUG CASE

DATELINE: WESTMINSTER

WESTMINSTER -- City police arrested two men Saturday on drug- and alcohol-related charges after stopping a car at Route 27 and Main Street:

* Michael J. Sharik, 45, of Jarrettsville, was charged with driving while intoxicated, possessionwith intent to deliver marijuana, possession with intent to deliver cocaine, and possession of marijuana and cocaine.

* Douglas Randall Jackson, 31, of Cockeysville, was charged with possession of a controlled, dangerous substance and possession of paraphernalia.

Police reported that officers stopped a car about 2 a.m. Saturday after observing the driver cross the center line several times.

Both men were released after posting bond.

CITY BANK IS ROBBED

DATELINE: WESTMINSTER

WESTMINSTER -- State police are looking for a man in connection with Saturday's armed robbery of the Ashburton Federal Savings and Loan.

The man entered the bank in the 400 block of Baltimore Boulevard at 11:20 a.m. and threatened one of the tellers with a small, silver-colored revolver, police said.

After the teller gave him some money, police said the man told employees to lie face down on the floor while he made his getaway.

Police said employees were unableto get a good look at the man -- described as black with a ruddy complexion and about 5 feet 9 -- because he had the hood of his sweat shirt pulled around his head.

SCHOOL WINDOWS BROKEN

DATELINE: WESTMINSTER

WESTMINSTER -- Several windows at the rear of the Carroll County Career and Technology Center were broken this weekend, state policereported.

Police said the windows were broken between 2:45 p.m. Sunday and 6:30 a.m. Monday; damage was estimated at $4,000.

WOMAN DIES FROM INJURIES

DATELINE: SYKESVILLE

SYKESVILLE -- A South Carrollwoman died Monday from injuries sustained in a mid-December accident, state police reported Monday.

Simone Taddei, 65, died early Monday at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, police said, noting that her death brought the number of traffic fatalities in Carroll to 21 in 1991.

COUNTY WOMAN ARRESTED

DATELINE: OCEAN CITY

OCEAN CITY -- A 28-year-old Westminster woman was arrested for looting Sunday after a severe storm swept through the resort town, city police here said.

It was the only incident of looting or looting-related arrest, police said yesterday.

Susan D. Stultz was charged with theft from a boardwalk beach apparel shop, police said. Heavy windsfrom the storm smashed open the store's front door.

An officer spotted Stultz walking down the street carrying rafts, sunglasses, snorkels and sandals that were reported stolen from the T-Shirt Factory near Sixth Street, police charged. Stultz was released on her own recognizance.

THREE HURT IN ACCIDENT

DATELINE: WESTMINSTER

WESTMINSTER-- Three Westminster residents were injured Friday in a collision infront of the Carroll County Recycling Center on Route 97, state police said.

Suzanne E. Placek, 45, a driver; Karen D. Johnson, 25, a driver; and Lisa Matz, 23, a passenger in Johnson's car, were flown to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore for treatment.

Police said Placek was southbound on Route 97 when a northbound car driven by Margaret Fisher made a left turn into the recycling center.

Placek crossed the center line, attempting to avoid hitting Fisher, and collided with the car driven by Johnson, also northbound, police reported. Fisher, 72, of Westminster, completed the turn into the recycling center and was not hurt, police said. No charges were filed.

TWO FACE DRUG CHARGES

DATELINE: SYKESVILLE

SYKESVILLE -- Two men were arrested Thursday on drug charges after police were notified the pair planned to buy drugs in Baltimore County and return to Carroll, the State's Attorney's Office reported.

Keith Memmert, 19, of Marriottsville, and John Brashear, 19, of here, were charged with possession of LSD with intent to distribute, keeping and maintaining a common nuisance, possession of LSD, and possession of drug paraphernalia, the State's Attorney's Office said.

Both men also were chargedwith hiring, soliciting and using a juvenile for the distribution ofcontrolled dangerous substances.

One hundred hits of LSD and a controlled, dangerous substance pipe with marijuana residue were recovered after a search of the suspects, the state's attorney reported. Memmert and Brashear each had 50 hits of LSD hidden on them, police charged.

Memmert is being jailed at the Carroll County Detention Center on no bond because of pending charges of possession with intent todistribute. Brashear was released on $30,000 bond. The juvenile was released to parents.

State police and the Carroll County NarcoticsTask Force made the arrests about 8 p.m. on Liberty Road near the Baltimore County line.

10:42 p.m., Winfield, Mount Airy and Lisbon responded to a house fire on Flag Marsh Road.

Jan. 7

5:09 a.m., Hampstead assisted Baltimore County on a chimney fire on Benson Mill Road.

10:01 a.m., Taneytown, Harney, Emmitsburg, Kingsdale and Westminster responded to an apartment fire on Clover Court.
