Ruxton school to relocate

After nearly 80 years in Ruxton, from which it educated generations of area children, Ruxton Country School has announced plans to relocate and develop a site in Owings Mills, according to David Moore, chairman of the Board of Trustees.

The school's new location will be at 11202 Garrison Forest Road in Owings Mills, 12 miles from the lower school's current location at 1402 Berwick Road and less than four miles from the Beltway. The relocation and development schedule calls for the new school to be opened by the fall of this year.

Situated on approximately 30 acres, the site will allow for the design and construction of building modules which will provide ample classroom space, administrative offices, a community area and playing fields all within a country setting.

Ruxton Country School was founded in 1913 as the Blue Bird School. It's enrollment has grown from a few neighborhood children to 144 students at its two locations. Lower School at 1402 Berwick Road, Ruxton and Middle School at 6200 North Charles St.

The school offers a co-educational day school program for children in grades kindergarten through eighth grades.

* The Life Sciences Institute of the New Community College of Baltimore has established an educational partnership with the Robert W. Coleman Elementary School that involves 32 second and third-graders learning science, math and engineering at the college.

The program includes visits to New CCB's planetarium, greenhouse and high-tech labs, and provides individual mentoring.
