Services for Bertha Louise Bryan Stiles of Pasadena took place Jan. 6 at Singleton.

Mrs. Stiles, 79, died Jan. 3 at North Arundel Hospital.

She had worked for the S. S. Kresge Co. as a sales clerk for 21 years, until her retirement in 1972.

Mrs. Stiles was a member of the Magothy United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Paul W. Stiles Sr.; a son, Paul W. Stiles II, and a daughter, Roberta P. Ryer, both of Pasadena; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

GERTRUDE HASLUP

HOMEMAKER, 83

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered for Gertrude Anna Haslup of Severna Park at 10 a.m. Jan. 8 at St. John's the Evangelist Catholic Church.

Mrs. Haslup, 83, died of heart failure Jan. 5 at her daughter's home.

A homemaker who was born and raised in Baltimore, Mrs. Haslup graduated from the Institute of Notre Dame and attended Strayer Business College. Before her marriage, she worked for the Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. in the accounting department.

She was recognized for herscholarship at the Institute of Notre Dame.

Mrs. Haslup was a member of the St. John's congregation and the Arnold Senior Citizens Center. She was a former sodality member with the Shrine of the Little Flower, and a former member of St. Anthony's Church in Gardenville.

Her husband, Charles LeRoy Haslup Jr., whom she married in 1938, died in 1961.

Survivors include a daughter, Ann H. Carter of Severna Park; a son, Charles LeRoy Haslup III of Arnold; and four grandchildren.

Arrangements were by the Barranco and Sons Funeral Home.

DELPHIN E. THEBAUD

ARMY COLONEL, 73

A Mass of Christian burial for Delphin Etienne Thebaud Jr. of Severna Park will take place at 1 p.m. Jan. 7 at St. John's Evangelist Church of Severna Park.

Colonel Thebaud, 73, died of cancer Jan. 4 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.

Bornand raised in Baltimore, he lived in Linstead between 1967 and 1971 and in many other places during his career with the U.S. Army, which he served for 30 years.

He was a member of the St. John's congregation. His other interests included golf, travel and dining out.

Colonel Thebaud is survived by his wife, the former Diana Sinclair-Hill, whom he married in 1946; two daughters, Julie Anne Detch of SevernaPark and Josephine Thebaud Nelson of Norfolk, Va.; a son, Delphin E.Thebaud III of Severna Park; two brothers, Charles Carroll Thebaud of Columbus, Ga., and Vincent Joseph Thebaud of Towson.

THELMA C. FRITTER

WELDER, 81

Services for retired welder Thelma Cecelia Schmoll Fritter of Parkville, formerly of North Linthicum, will take place at 8:30 p.m. Jan. 7 at the Singleton Funeral Home.

Mrs. Fritter, 81, died Jan. 5 at Church Home Hospital after a lengthy illness.

She was a member of the Catonsville Baptist Church. Other interests included cooking, boating, fishing, crabbing and her grandchildren.

Mrs. Fritter was preceded in death by her husband, the late Allen G. Fritter.

Survivors include a daughter, Shirley M. Edmonds of Linthicum;three sisters, Catherine Newman of Arbutus, Virginia Smith of Alexandria, Va., Hilda Fromm of the Baltimore Highlands, and Grace Bradfield of Ocean City; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be at the funeral home between 3 and 5 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 7.

WILLIAM J. HARBAUGH

SAFETY DIRECTOR, 81

Services for William Jacob Harbaugh of Linthicum will take place at 9 a.m. Jan. 7 at the Singleton Funeral Home.

Mr. Harbaugh, 81, the former director of safety at all airports in the state of Maryland, died Jan. 3 at his home.

Born and raised in Struthers, Ohio, he later attended Marion High School in Marion in 1928. He went on to attend the University of Maryland for two years.

He began running the family farm at the age of 19. Later, he went to work for the Dupont Corp. in Seaford, Del. For 32 years, Mr. Harbaugh was involved in the creation and development of Friendship Airport, now Baltimore-Washington International Airport.

He was an avid yachtsman and a lifelong advocate of protecting the Chesapeake Bay. Mr. Harbaugh was also devoted to his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, the former Mary Royal; two sons, Jay Harbaugh of Linthicum and Richard Harbaugh of Glen Burnie; a daughter, Pam Harbaugh, also of Glen Burnie;and a brother, Charles P. Harbaugh Jr. of Baltimore.

EDGAR R. MUMFORD

PROFESSOR, 93

Services for Edgar Royal Mumford of Annapolis willtake place at 10 a.m. Jan. 11 at the Unitarian Church of Anne Arundel County, 333 Dubois St., in Annapolis.

Mr. Mumford, 93, died Jan.4 at his home.

He was born in West Jordan, Utah, and grew up in Vancouver, Wash. Mr. Mumford taught high school science and mathematics at McMinnville, Ore., until World War II, when he served as a radiooperator in the U.S. Navy.

He attended radar school at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass., and served as the officer in charge of the radar school at Mare Island, Calif. In 1944, he was transferred to the U.S. Naval Academy as an instructor in the electrical engineering department.

He was an active beekeeper, known by many in the area as "the honey man." He was instrumental in organizing the Anne Arundel County Beekeepers Association and starting the honey booth at the Anne Arundel County Fair.

Mr. Mumford wasa longtime member of the Annapolis Civitan Club, the First Presbyterian Church and the Unitarian Church of Anne Arundel County.

Survivors include two daughters, Katherine Mumford Cave and Dorothy Mumford, both of Annapolis; two sons, Willard Mumford of Annapolis and Charles Mumford of Vienna, Va.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

MARLENE KILPATRICK

ADMINISTRATOR, 55

Services for Marlene A.Kilpatrick of Arnold will take place at 1 p.m. Jan. 7, at Jenkins Memorial Church in Riviera Beach.

Mrs. Kilpatrick, 55, was murdered Jan. 3 at her home.

Born and raised in Baltimore, she was a long-time resident of Anne Arundel County. Mrs. Kilpatrick was employed by the Anne Arundel County Board of Realtors in an administrative capacity until she resigned in 1985 because of multiple sclerosis.

She is survived by two sons; David G. Kilpatrick of Pasadena and Joseph F.Kilpatrick of Annapolis; a daughter, Lisa G. O'Connell of Pasadena; a sister, Ruth Clark of Palm Harbor, Fla.; and a brother, William Eaton of Florida.

MrMumaw, 69, died Jan. 2 of natural causes at his home.

Mr. Mumaw is survived by a son, Richard Wayne Mumaw Sr. of Pasadena; two daughters, Synthia W. Lapp of Harford County and Linda Diane Tyler, Columbia, Ga.; a brother, Franklin Mumaw of Winchester, Va.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
