The Baltimore Thunder went to Joe Louis Arena Saturday night looking for revenge against the Detroit Turbos for last season's 14-12 loss in the Major Indoor Lacrosse League championship game.

But all the Thunder got was another disappointing loss as the Turbos rallied from a 5-1 first-quarter deficit to win, 20-13.

"We thought we knew their personnel well and would find a way to win," Thunder coach John Stewart said yesterday. "But their goalie, Ted Sawicki [46 saves, five assists], was the difference in the game. He's always given us problems and this time he held his ground well and made us shoot to the corners. We missed a lot of shots on breakaways."

Sawicki is a two-time All-MILL selection and "does what he has to do," according to Stewart.

Stewart said the Thunder played "a hard-hitting game" but the Turbos "executed well and took advantage of their chances."

The Thunder (1-1) will play its next game Jan. 25 at the Baltimore Arena against the New York Saints at 8 p.m.

Gary Gait had three goals and four assists to lead the Turbos, and Pete Parke added three goals and two assists for Detroit (1-0), which out-scored the Thunder 13-7 in the second half.

Jeff Jackson (Loyola High) paced Baltimore with four goals and three assists. John Holthaus (Loyola College) added a goal and six assists.
