A pair of free throws by by Mike Davidson with 15 second remaining in the game lifted the Liberty boys past Glenelg (Howard County), 79-78, in the championship of the Liberty Bell Classic Dec. 28.

The Lions trailed most of the night, but rallied to score the game's final four points to claim the title.

Matt Alexander, who was the game's high scorer with 22 points, hit a jumper with 35 seconds left to pull the Lions to within one -- setting up Davidson's heroics at the free throw line.

The Lions reached the finals with a 63-54 win over Bel Air in the opening round of the tournament Dec. 26.

In other boys tournament action Dec. 27 and 28, The Westminster Owls and South Carroll Cavaliers both finished the Westminster Holiday Mixer with a pair of wins.

Westminster pulled away from Francis Scott Key, 79-43, on Dec. 28 after beating Pallotti (Prince George's County), 58-52, in the first round.

Westminster's Calvin Warfield was named the mixer's Most Outstanding Player. Against Key, he scored 19 points and gave Key fits defensively all night long.

South Carroll edged Pallotti, 63-60, in the second roundon Dec. 27 after handing Key a 64-55 loss the prior night.

Scott Mills had a career night for the Cavaliers against Pallotti. He scored a game-high 31 points while pulling down eight rebounds and had four steals and four assists.

Mills, Warfield, Key's Dave Layman, Westminster's Todd Dorsey and Pallotti's Mike Doyle were selected to theall-tournament team.

In the North Carroll Holiday Tournament on Dec. 28, the host Panthers lost their second straight overtime decision to Fallston (Harford County), 92-89, in the consolation contest.

Wade Zufall scored 20 points, while Dave Polischeck added 17 in a losing cause for North Carroll.

The Panthers opened the tournament with a 86-83 overtime setback to Franklin, Baltimore County, the nightbefore.
