FIRST BABY ARRIVES

THE BALTIMORE SUN

The county's first baby of the year arrived nine hours and 46 minutes into 1992.

Thomas Crenshaw Saxton's impending birth interrupted his parents' plans for a quiet New Year's Eve at their Finksburg home.

Soon after watching the televised celebrations late Tuesday, Mikeand May Saxton were driving up Route 140 to Carroll County General Hospital, where their third child, a 7-pound, 2-ounce boy, was born.

Among the first to greet the new arrival Wednesday were his sister,Sarah Beth, 6, and brother, Michael, 3.

"I didn't care if I got abrother or sister," said Sarah Beth. "I just wanted a healthy baby."

The children brought "their baby" a troll doll. They had a present for mom, too -- a stuffed boxer dog.

Young Michael took Tommy's first picture, with a little help from dad.

"Tommy is trying to talk already," said his brother.

Every Jan. 1, the Saxtons traditionally bury a "time capsule" containing "sentimental reminders" of the year, said Mike.

"We'll be a little late this year," he said. "Butwe will have some special baby items to add."
