Two men charged with operating a major sports betting enterprise that police said netted $75,000 a week in northern Anne Arundel County have been released on their own recognizance after an appearance before a District Court commissioner.
County police said Raymond S. Young Jr., 43, of the 100 block of Highland Road in Glen Burnie, and Anthony G. Constantino, 54, of the 100 block of Seagull Drive in Pasadena, were arrested at their homes Sunday. Each was charged with keeping a place for gambling and making a pool on professional sporting events.
The arrests came after a lengthy undercover investigation that began several months ago when the FBI tipped them off about a sports betting operation in the northern part of the county.
Police said Young headed the operation and Constantino worked for him.
Following the arrests, police went to Constantino's business, Tony's Produce, in the 8500 block of Fort Smallwood Road and seized cash and betting slips, police said.
Police also raided a house in the 1700 block of Marley Ave. and seized more than $1,500, book-making records, a telephone, VTC football schedules from Las Vegas and two semiautomatic handguns. Records of customers, whose names were entered by code, also were seized by police.
Police said the investigation is widening and more arrests could be expected as the names of others in the operation become known.
