Jockeys' insurance to continue

THE BALTIMORE SUN

FAIR HILL (AP) -- Quotations are being received by the Thoroughbred Racing Associations from insurers that will continue the current accident insurance protection for jockeys.

"Apparently, there are some misrepresentations being made at tracks around the country that accident insurance for jockeys will be discontinued on Jan. 1," Chris Scherf, the TRA vice president, said in a statement released yesterday. "That is not true."

Scherf said the TRA members track throughout the United States "definitely will have an insurance package in place by Jan. 1 to cover all jockeys, regardless of whether we reach an agreement with Jockeys' Guild. And, in fact, the current policy at several tracks does not even lapse until April."
