NO TRESPASSING

THE BALTIMORE SUN

As an alternative to "No Trespassing" signs that may be torn

downor defaced, the Maryland legislature allows land owners to use special markings that tell visitors they are on private property that is posted against trespassing.

The markings must fit the following format.

* Be at least 2 inches wide and 8 inches long.

* Be between 3 feet and 6 feet above the ground or water

* Be visible to any person with normal eyesight who approaches the property.

The Department of Natural Resourcesalso recommends that these marks be close enough that a person standing in front of one mark can see the adjacent marks, off to each side. This distance varies, based on terrain and vegetation.
