ROBBERY/ARREST: Southwestern District -- Police last night arrested a man who fired shots at officers who were seeking him in connection with an armed robbery. Police said Harry James Gay, of the 4400 block of Greenspring Ave., was in the 600 block of N. Woodington Road shortly after 6 p.m. when he was robbed of his cash and jewelry by a man armed with a semi-automatic handgun. Shortly after Gay gave police a description of the gunman, Officers James Fallon and Charles Porter spotted the suspect in the 4800 block of Frederick Ave. When Fallon and Porter approached the man, he pulled out a handgun and fired several times at the officers. None of the bullets hit the officers, who were unable to return fire for fear of hitting innocent people. Following the shooting, the gunman attempted to escape but was caught by Fallon and Porter. From the suspect, police took a .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun, and body armor that he was wearing. It was not immediately known if Gay's property was found on the suspect. Charged with armed assault and robbery, using a handgun in the commission of a felony, discharging a firearm and two counts of attempting to kill Fallon and Porter is Timothy Gray, 23, of the first block of S. Rosedale St. Police said Gray was held overnight in the station lockup in lieu of $100,000 bail pending a bail review hearing today before a District Court judge.
ROBBERY: Southwestern District -- Donald Pierson, of the 4800 block of Melbourne Road, reported he was in the 1900 block of W. Pratt St. over the weekend when he was accosted by a man armed with a handgun who demanded his money. Police said Pierson complied, giving the gunman his cash and a ring. Police said the property was valued at more than $500.
ROBBERY: Southwestern District -- Police said a man and his female companion were walking in the 1900 block of Bloomingdale Road Sunday night when they were robbed of their money by two men, one armed with a baseball bat. Police said the men robbed Gregory Thomas, of the 2800 block of Allendale Road, of a small sum of money and forced his companion, Priscilla Smith, of the same address, to hand over her cash. Police said both victims were threatened with bodily harm but that neither was injured.
BURGLARY: Southwestern District -- Employees of Thorn International in the 3400 block of Clifton Ave. reported that someone broke into their building early yesterday morning and stole property valued at $100. Police said entry was gained through a side window.
BURGLARY: Southwestern District -- Police said someone broke into the Jesse Lee appliance store in the 1900 block of W. Pratt St. over the weekend and stole property valued at $2,200. Entry was gained, police said, by forcing a door.
BURGLARY: Western District -- A resident of the 100 block of N. Poppleton St. told police that someone forced their way into her home between Dec. 6 and yesterday and stole property valued at nearly $500. Police said the burglar escaped with a TV and a VCR and that entry was gained by breaking a window.
BURGLARY: Western District -- Employees of Total Health Care in the 1500 block of W. Saratoga St. told police that someone broke into their business over the weekend and stole more than $1,700 worth of computer equipment. Police said entry was gained by forcing a rear door.
ASSAULT: Western District -- Jeffrey Brown, of the 900 block of Harlem Ave., reported that during an argument with another man near his home yesterday evening the other person pulled out a handgun and threatened to shoot him. Police said the gunman did not shoot Brown, who was advised to seek a warrant for the man's arrest.
THEFT: Northern District -- The manager of an Amoco service station in the 500 block of E. 33rd St. told police that an employee took the day's receipts at the end of his shift Sunday. The manager told police that nearly $2,000 was missing when he and others reported to work.
THEFT: Northern District -- Vicki Thompson, of the 1200 block of Southview Road, reported that while her 1990 Honda was parked in the 400 block of Croydon Road over the weekend someone broke into the vehicle and stole 50 cassette tapes and a dress. Thompson said the property was valued at more than $500.
THEFT: Northern District -- Ronnie Edmondson, of the 1900 block of Winford Road, reported that property valued at more than $200 was stolen from his 1985 Nissan while the vehicle was parked in the 400 block of Venable Ave. over the weekend. Edmondson told police an AM-FM radio and a 12-inch bike were stolen and that entry was gained by forcing the passenger side door.
THEFT: Northern District -- An employee of J.C. Ehrlich & Co. in the 3800 block of Falls Road reported that someone broke into one of their vehicles while it was parked on their property over the weekend and stole four 50-foot rolls of electrical cord and other pieces of equipment. Police said the property was valued at more than $300.
BURGLARY: Northern District -- Police reported that someone broke into a house in the 400 block of Falls Road and stole a circular saw and stereo equipment. Police said the property was valued at more than $1,000 and that entry was gained through a door.
BURGLARY: Northern District -- Police said property valued at $300 was stolen from a dwelling in the first block of E. 25th St. over the weekend. The victim told police the thief escaped with a compact disc player.
Baltimore County
ROBBERY: Garrison District -- Police reported a man armed with a sawed-off shotgun robbed a pizza carryout last night of an undisclosed sum of money. Police said a man with blond hair and wearing tan pants and a sweat shirt entered Calama's pizza shop in the 10300 block of Reisterstown Road shortly before 6:30 p.m. yesterday and demanded money from an employee after pulling out the weapon. Police said the man then went behind the counter and removed the cash register tray before fleeing the scene on foot. No injuries were reported.
Anne Arundel County
DRUG ARRESTS: Glen Burnie -- Police last week arrested two Glen Burnie men and charged them each with possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and a deadly weapon charge after the officers, posing as drug dealers, sold the suspects fake cocaine. After receiving information from a reliable informant that two men would be waiting in a parking lot at Thompson Avenue and Furnace Branch Road to buy a half-gram of cocaine, county police posing as runners for a drug dealer arrived on the scene first and met the men. During a brief meeting, the officers sold $50 worth of fake cocaine to the men and then arrested them without incident. In the car of one of the men, police found cocaine residue, two large knives and a homemade smoking pipe. Arrested and charged were Kenneth Jerome Funk, 33, of the first block of Chester Circle, and Karl Edward Ries, 31, of the 100 block of Beth Road.
SUSPICIOUS FIRE: Cape St. Claire -- Police and fire investigators today continued their probe of a fire that damaged a home last week and has been ruled suspicious. Police said someone reportedly broke into a house in the 1100 block of Summit Ave. last Thursday night and set a fire that caused $30,000 damage. The occupant of the house, Dorothy D. Stephens, was not at home when the fire broke out. Police said the fire began when someone set fire to a couch in the basement. A county fire department spokesman said the single-alarm fire burned for about three hours before nearly two dozen firefighters from area stations gained control. No arrests had been made in the case.
BURGLARY: Lothian -- A resident of the 6100 block of Fishers Station Road reported that someone broke into his outdoor storage shed by forcing the door and stole a chain saw and a weed trimmer. Police said the property was valued at nearly $1,200.
Carroll County
DRUG CHARGE: Westminster -- Juvenile delinquency charges were expected to be placed against a 15-year-old student at Westminster High School who allegedly gave another student some LSD, which made the student ill. An investigation into the incident led to the arrest of the student who supplied the drug. No charges were placed against the other student. After the student became ill, a school vice principal stopped the suspect student and found 13 doses of the drug in his pockets. Police said the youth was expected to be charged with possession of LSD and possession of LSD with intent to distribute. Police said the student who became ill recovered a short time later and did not require medical attention.
THEFT: Finksburg -- A resident of the first block of Welch Court reported that someone broke into his car while it was parked near his home and stole musical instruments valued at more than $1,200.
VANDALISM: Sykesville -- Police reported that someone vandalized a car while the vehicle was parked in the first block of Victor Drive. Police said someone spray-painted the car, causing an estimated $800 in damage.
THEFT: Sykesville -- Employees of a construction company reported to police that someone entered a building site on Raincliffe Road and stole at least $3,000 worth of electrical wire.
Harford County
BURGLARY: Aberdeen -- Police reported that someone broke into a dwelling in the 1000 block of Carsins Run Road and stole a TV, VCR and a handgun. Police said the property was valued at $600.
BURGLARY: Abingdon -- Employees of Specialty Auto Works in the 3900 block of Pulaski Highway told police that their shop was broken into by someone who stole a photocopying machine and a wheel balancer. Police said the property was valued at more than $4,200.
BURGLARY: Perryman -- A resident of the 1500 block of Railroad Ave. told police that someone broke into his home and stole property valued at nearly $2,000. Police said the intruder escaped with several pieces of jewelry and coins.
Harford County
ARREST: Darlington -- A 43-year-old woman who tutors juveniles with learning disabilities has been released on $50,000 bond following charges that she sexually molested boys while the youths were in her care. A spokesman for the sheriff's department said Mary Kay Bely, of the 3900 block of Paddrick Road in Darlington, was charged with multiple second-degree sex offenses of an under age victim, custodian child abuse and contributing to the delinquency of minors. Police said Bely allegedly gave alcoholic beverages to male children in her care and then engaged in sexual intercourse with them at her home. Police also allege that Bely would allow young boys in her care to drive her car to isolated areas of the county, where she and the youths engaged in sex acts and inhaled butane. Bely was arrested at her home on Dec. 12 and held in the county's Detention Center pending $50,000 bail. Shortly after obtaining a bail bondsman, police said Bely was released. No trial date has been set.
