BELCAMP AREA SCHOOL WINS TENTATIVE STATE OK

The county has won tentative state support to build an elementary school in the Belcamp area.

The Interagency Committee on School Construction, a state panel that reviews requests for money, said it would support granting the county $3.1 million next year to build the Belcamp school.

The IAC heard appeals from the county Board of Education Friday for money to plan construction of a school near Bel Air along Route 24and for money to plan a new roof for Halls Crossroads Elementary.

Those projects were rejected two weeks ago when the county asked forplanning and construction money.

The IAC recommendations must be approved by the state Board of Public Works, composed of Gov. WilliamDonald Schaefer, Comptroller Louis Goldstein and Treasurer Lucille Maurer.

The Board of Public Works is expected next month to approveschool construction projects across the state costing $60 million.

The County Council has already approved spending $2.9 million of county money to complete the Belcamp school by September 1993, when a Route 543 elementary school and Fallston Middle School are scheduled to open.

A section of Fallston High will be used beginning in September 1992 to house sixth-graders who will move next door to the Fallston Middle School in 1993.
