THE BALTIMORE SUN

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Brendan Shanahan scored two goals last night to lead the St. Louis Blues to a 6-3 victory over the Buffalo Sabres, who fired coach Rick Dudley after the game.

Dudley was replaced by John Muckler, the Sabres' director of hockey operations and the former coach of the Edmonton Oilers.

The loss dropped Buffalo to 0-6-2 in its past eight games.

The Blues won on the road for the first time since Nov. 1 and only the third time this season.

Guy Hebert stopped 35 shots in his NHL debut for St. Louis, while Brett Hull added his league-leading 28th goal of the season and Adam Oates and Jeff Brown also scored.

Dale Hawerchuk scored twice for Buffalo.

Shanahan's two power-play goals in the second period broke a 1-1 tie and helped the Blues to a 4-2 lead going into the final period.
