Ways to winterize your shoes

THE BALTIMORE EVENING SUN

This is winter and time for the muck to hit the streets. By muck, we mean slush and salt and other things that make being well-groomed from head to toe a difficult undertaking. Here is some advice from kiwi brands:

* Saddle soap cleans and softens damaged leather and can help remove salt residue. Mink oil softens weather-damaged shoes, but does not clean it.

* Never dry shoes with heat. Let them dry slowly.

* Remove salt stains immediately. The longer they linger, the more difficult they are to remove.
