Jonathan Berkowitz

Jonathan A. Berkowitz, a fitness trainer who was seriously injured in an auto accident about 14 months ago, died Friday at Deaton Hospital and Medical Center in Baltimore. His death, at 24, resulted from head injuries received in the accident in Baltimore Oct. 7, 1990.

Mr. Berkowitz had been a patient in four hospitals since the accident and had been at Deaton since July.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Witzke funeral establishment, 5555 Twin Knolls Road in Columbia.

Mr. Berkowitz earned a bachelor's degree in business from Frostburg State University in 1989 and was taking classes in physical fitness and working as a trainer at a Towson spa when the accident occurred.

He was a 1985 graduate of Centennial High School, where he played lacrosse. At Frostburg, he belonged to a sports fraternity and played lacrosse and rugby. Since age 5, he had played ice hockey.

Mr. Berkowitz was born in Silver Spring, then moved with his family to Philadelphia. Twelve years later, the family moved to Columbia.

Mr. Berkowitz is survived by his parents, Anne and David Berkowitz; a sister, Rachel Berkowitz, all of Columbia; and his grandmother, Gladys Berkowitz of Metuchen, N.J.

The family suggested memorial contributions to the Nancy Cruzan Foundation, 217 Cass St., Cartersville, Mo. 64835.
