County commuters have a new place to meet for car pools -- an 85-space lot opened by the State Highway Administration.
The new lot is on Route 3, just north of Benfield Boulevard and adjacent to Interstate 97. It is open around the clock and use of the lot is free.
The lot is the 67th ride-sharing lot to open in the state. According to the SHA, 4,400 Marylanders use the facilities, saving an average of $155 a month in fuel, parking fees and vehicle wear and tear.
Car-pooling also reduces air and noise pollution, reduces traffic, improves traffic flow and saves highway maintenance money.
