A committee appointed by Councilman Philip J. Barker, D-District F, has been debating what revisions to make to a bill he has drafted that would regulate adult bookstores in the county. A revised bill may be proposed next month.

Barker says the bill will be aimed at protecting the health of patrons of the shops.

The original draft bill states that businesses that would come under the requirements would be those whose "principal business" is thesale or rental of films, books and magazines which depict people in a "state of sexual arousal."

The original draft prohibits such businesses from being located within 1,000 feet of residential areas, schools, churches and day-care centers. It would also require the shopsto remove doors to peep shows and have all areas of the shop visibleto an attendant.
