Sunny forecast for Turk

WEATHER OR KNOT: Ask WJZ-TV's "Sunshine Kid" Bob Turk what he'll be doing for the holidays and you may be surprised to hear he'll be honeymooning with his new bride, Tina Avig, in Hawaii.

Bob and fiancee Tina, an assistant at Podiatry Associates, have been dating for a couple of years, and according to Bob, "It was time." They'll be married here Dec. 15.

ALL OF BALTIMORE is invited to the grand opening of the Hollywood Diner, formerly called the Kids' Diner, Thursday from noon to 2 p.m. at 400 E. Saratoga St.

It was used as the setting for Barry Levinson's hit movie "Diner," so many of the original Diner Guys -- including Boogie Weinglass -- are expected to attend, as well as Mayor Kurt Schmoke, former Colt Lenny Moore and some Orioles players and coaches.

The Hollywood Diner will continue to train young people in the food service industry. Drop by for French fries and gravy.

THE O'S ZONE: If you don't know what to get the sports fan on your holiday shopping list, listen up. The Orioles' 14th annual Holiday Benefit Sale is in full force at the Hit and Run Club at Memorial Stadium, and this year's sale includes such items as the chairs and nameplates from the Orioles clubhouse, bats, balls and the helmets the O's used in the Turn Back the Clock Day game.

Today, Ellie Hendricks and Randy Milligan will be on hand for the holiday sale, which runs through Saturday, when Mark Williamson and Dave Johnson will appear. Call (410) 547-6140 for more info.

QUICK STUFF: WIYY-FM's Bob Lopez and wife Jean are infanticipating -- their first is due next month. . . . The Orioles' Bill Ripken and Gregg Olson are celebrity judges for tonight's ongoing 98 Rock Comedy Quest at Slapstix Comedy Club. . . . WXYV-FM's Jean Ross will host the Support Black Filmmaking Comedy Jam, Part One, tonight at Club Montoya's at 205 Clay St., featuring comics from the Baltimore-D.C. area. Tickets are $10 at the door, $8 if you have a college ID.

LOCAL GEMS: The Friends of School 33 are staging a Winter Holiday Benefit Exhibition and Sale featuring one-of-a-kind jewelry and other holiday items on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Original works by area artists will be featured with prices starting at $8. The school's located at 1427 Light St. . . . Speaking of jewelry, New York artist-goldsmith Claire Bersani will return to the Walters Art Gallery today at 3 p.m. to give a lecture and demonstration of jewelry making. Admission is $6, $5 for members and students.

NAME-DROPPING: Richard Bluefeld has returned to the catering scene with Selective Catering, based in Columbia. He's teamed up with Darryl Wolod for this new venture. . . . George Kondylas, a native Baltimorean and member of the rock band Beyond Words, has opened a nifty shop called Classic Decor in Randallstown featuring vintage furniture and unusual items.

CLAUS AND EFFECT: Area notables who'll be playing Santa today at the Harborplace Amphitheater to benefit John's Hopkins Children's Center include Baltimore City state's attorney Stuart Simms, the Police Department's Maj. Ray Raffensberger, harbor dockmaster Joanne Aiello Ditch, caterer Charles Levine and WBFF-FM's Lisa Willis.

CHARM CITY CHARMER: If we had such a thing as a salute, start with Rosemary Baldwin, a nurse at Harbor Hospital Center. Cecelia Payton, who met Baldwin while her husband was a patient there in the cancer ward, writes that Baldwin helped her through a trying time "by her smile, words of encouragement and always hope."

She adds, "I know you write about 'important' people and this is one of the most important people we have."

MOVERS AND SHAKERS: AMFAR (American Foundation for AIDS Research) has given local designer Wenda Royster its stamp of approval. Wenda's Wenda Wear hand-painted tuxedo shirts are available at Rococo in Pikesville, with part of the proceeds from the sale donated to AMFAR.
