Despite Baltimore baseball fans' love affair with native son Cal Ripken Jr., they aren't convinced the Orioles should make him baseball's highest-paid player -- especially if the money is coming out of their own pockets.

In light of Ripken's impending free agency and Bobby Bonilla's $29 million signing this week with the Mets, "It's Your Call" asked if the Orioles should ensure Ripken's remaining with the Orioles by offering him a salary package exceeding Bonilla's. Fifty-one percent (207) of the 404 respondents thought not.

The respondents were much more in agreement when asked if they would be willing to pay higher ticket prices to help offset a $29 million-plus salary for Ripken. By nearly a 3-to-1 margin (286-103) callers said thanks but no thanks.

"It's Your Call" represents a sampling of opinions from certain segments of the community, but it is not balanced demographically, as would be done in a scientific public opinion poll.
