Pete Rose probably will apply next year for reinstatement to baseball and yesterday said that he is interested in working for the expansion Florida Marlins. Rose, who allegedly bet on baseball, also said he's interested in a broadcasting job. No one declared permanently ineligible ever has been reinstated.
* MARLINS: After hiring several staff members from the Expos, the club agreed last month to halt the practice at the urging of National League president Bill White.
* PADRES: Infielder-outfielder Bip Roberts says he was told by his agent that he soon will be dealt to the Reds for relief pitcher Randy Myers.
* CARDINALS: The club said negotiations to extend shortstop Ozzie Smith's contract had ended without an agreement. The team already had exercised the option to renew Smith's contract for 1992, meaning he would earn about $2 million, roughly what he made in the first two years of his 1989 contract.
* METS: The team said it probably wouldn't be able to re-sign pitcher Frank Viola, and his agent said Viola, 31, had rejected a contract from the Dodgers.
