Branches of the large pine tree at the Linthicum Community Garden will be all aglow Sunday, setting the stage for holiday festivities in the neighborhood.
The Linthicum Shipley Improvement Association, in conjunction with the Woman's Club of Linthicum Heights, is sponsoring a Christmas Tree Lighting at 3 p.m. at the garden, at the corner of Maple and Camp Meade roads.
LSIA is planning an especially nice program this year, and organizers hope everybody will participate in this community celebration.
As everyone gathers around the festively decorated tree of red bowsand white lights, they will be entertained by the Harbour Brass Quintet playing Christmas favorites. Preschool singers from the St. John's Cooperative Nursery School and the YWCA preschool will add to the program with their own special renditions. Carol singing and refreshments of hot cider and cookies will be featured.
The program will culminate with the arrival of Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus, bringing gifts and candy canes for all the children in attendance.
In case of extreme cold, snow or rain, the program will be moved to Linthicum Elementary School, 101 School Lane. No matter what the weather, though, ifyou plan to drive, please park at the elementary school or St. John's Lutheran Church's parking lot, 300 W. Maple Road.
The regularly scheduled monthly meeting of the LSIA is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, at the Linthicum Elementary School. A short business meeting and Christmas party is planned.

Besides the ChristmasTree Lighting, don't forget the Farmhouse Christmas Celebration at the Benson-Hammond House from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Decorated rooms, refreshments, music, gift shop and a special exhibit on "Pickers and Pickers Checks, a Lost Culture" will be featured in the restored 19th-century house.

Members of the Friendly Thyme Herb Club will learn how to make an angel to go along with their herbal Christmas decorations at the next meeting at 10:30 a.m. this Friday, Dec. 6.
Club member Adele Walter will demonstrate the technique of using twisted paper to form the angel and work sheets will be distributed.

The group Notables, from the American Association of Retired Persons, Patapsco Valley 3850, has a full schedule this holiday season providing cheer to all who attend one of their performances.
The Notables will give their Christmas show at 2 p.m. Thursday at Catonsville Community Convalescent Center, 333 Harlem Lane.
They willentertain the Amoco Alumnusts at the Rose Restaurant in North Linthicum for their Christmas Luncheon at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

The December meeting of the Woman's Club of Linthicum Heights will take place at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, at the clubhouse, 110 N. Hammonds Ferry Road.
The morning program will takemembers and their guests on a journey back in time to Christmas' of yesteryear as guest speaker, Sue Latini presents "What a Christmas That Was." Sue will help people visualize how past holidays were spent,their traditions and customs.
Sue teaches open-hearth cooking classes at the 1840 House of the Baltimore City Life Museums. She is coordinator for special culinary events at the museum and plans and presents a variety of programs for the visitors' enjoyment.
She also teaches 1840-era meals and herb cooking at Anne Arundel Community College. Sue is retired from the U.S. Department of Defense, is married and has two sons.
In the afternoon, Stan Grant, a local entertainer, will play Christmas music on the accordabox and keyboard. His wife,Bonnie, will accompany him as vocalist and club members will be invited to join in on some of the traditional tunes.

The North Linthicum Improvement Association will have a short monthly meeting and a Christmas party at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec.4, at Overlook Elementary School, 401 Hampton Road.
The tree-planting ceremony was very successful last month and the association wants to send a special Thank You to the clergy that attended. Bruce Huffman from the Friendship Church of the Brethren and Father Bernard S. Bak from St. Philip Neri Church gave a reading and short prayer. The trees were planted in remembrance of lost friends and relatives or tohonor the living.

If you are buying a live Christmas tree this year, the place to go for a freshly cut one is the Ferndale firehouse parking lot or the Northway liquor store on Veterans Highway nearOld Mill Road. Trees will be for sale from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. everyday starting this Friday until Christmas Eve.
This is a fund-raising project of the Anne Arundel Alarmers Association, which supports the firefighters with food and drinks when they are called out to second alarm fires.
Various sizes and prices will be available: ScotchPine $20, Fraizer Fur $35 and Balsam Pine $15. Each customer who purchases a tree is eligible to win a 20-pound turkey.
