The Cincinnati Reds traded outfielder Eric Davis to the Los Angeles Dodgers last night as part of a four-player deal that sent right-hander Tim Belcher to the Reds. Cincinnati also got reliever John Wetteland and sent reliever Kip Gross to the Dodgers.
Davis fell out of favor with Reds manager Lou Piniella when he decided to sit out most of the second half of the season because of what Davis called chronic fatigue resulting from his kidney injury in the 1990 World Series.
* PIRATES: Pittsburgh have increased their offer to Bobby Bonilla to $22.5 million for five years, and the outfielder's agent asked the New York Mets to make another offer.
The team's previous offer had been for $18.5 million over four years with a club option for a fifth season at $4 million.
Dennis Gilbert, Bonilla's representative, also said the Chicago Cubs submitted a contract proposal yesterday. Bonilla has offers from the Pirates, Mets, Cubs, Angels and Phillies.
* CUBS: Chicago signed fired Milwaukee manager Tom Trebelhorn, who interview for the job of manager that went to Jim Lefebvre, to the coaching staff.
