The family of the late Rev. Bert Benz was the recipient of more than$5,000 from the Lutheran Brotherhood Carroll County Branch 8521 at arecent church service.

At the Nov. 3 annual meeting of the countybranch, President Claudius Elmore announced that more than $3,600 had been raised locally for the Benz family. The Lutheran Brotherhood added another $1,500.

In the past year, the brotherhood has dispersed almost $17,000 tovarious local projects such as Disaster Relief, Friends in Deed, Care and Share, and the Branch Challenge Fund.

More than 250 branch members and their families welcomed Representative Beverly B. Byron, D-6th, to the meeting. She presented Angie Maus of Manchester with an award for winning the "Speak for Yourself" contest in Byron's district.

Bessie Dougherty and Angie Bowersox were recognized as Carroll County's "Most Beautiful People" for 1990 and 1991, respectively.

A check for more than $6,700 was presented to the Carroll County Therapeutic Recreation Council from the proceeds of September Song's production of "Kiss Me Kate," plus a matching amount from the Lutheran Brotherhood.

Elected officers for 1992 were: Claudius Elmore, president; Thomas Devilbiss, vice president; Darleen Weller, secretary; Doris Dell, treasurer; Joan Hayden, service officer; Bob Schumaker, education officer; Evelyn Babylon, publicity officer; and Sue Hartman, respecteen coordinator.

Lutheran Brotherhood is a non-profit organization providing financial services and many fraternal benefit programs. District representatives are James Fair, Lawrence Gamber and Steven Dannenfelt. Ginny Soburg-Rhyne is the unit adviser.
