IBM said yesterday it would cut 20,000 jobs next year and take a $3 billion accounting charge against fourth-quarter earnings to pay for the voluntary severances and other costs.
Under a previously announced program, the world's largest computer-maker plans to eliminate about 20,000 jobs this year as it struggles to boost its sagging profits. IBM will employ about 333,000 after these two job reductions.
