The Centennial Eagles and the Wilde Lake Wildecats, who each won state championships this season, dominate The Howard County Sun's All-County boys soccer team.
The Eagles have four players and the Wildecats three on the first team. Atholton received two first-team slots, and Hammond and Howard have one apiece.
In addition, Wilde Lake's Hamisi Amani-Dove and Matt Nesbitt werenamed co-Players of the Year.
Centennial's Bill Stara and Wilde Lake's Dave Nesbitt were named co-Coaches of the Year.
Centennial completed an undefeated season with a 14-0-2 record and a Class 3A state title, its first since 1987. One of its ties was with Wilde Lake.
Wilde Lake completed its season with a 13-2-2 record and a Class 1A state title, its first since 1984.
Each team had seven shutouts.The Eagles outscored their opponents, 48-13; the Wildecats outscoredtheir foes, 50-18.
Here's look at each of the first-team players:
Forwards
Hamisi Amani-Dove of Wilde Lake was the ultimate striker this season, creating more fear among opponents than any other player.
He scored 17 goals and had seven assists. His best game was a three-goal effort against Archbishop Curley. He scored the game-winning goal against Atholton.
Josh Baer of Centennial used his tremendous speed to score many of his goals. Baer scored 18 times and had seven assists. The senior scored in three of the four post-season games. Baer scored a big goal late in the game against Walt Whitman, tying the game at 1-1 and allowing Centennial to win in overtime.
Tony Dedmond of Atholton possessed lightning speed and a knack for goingto goal that gave opposing coaches constant headaches. The senior scored 15 goals and had 10 assists. He made key goals in ties with Howard and Centennial. His high game was three goals against Hammond.
Midfield
Matt Nesbitt of Wilde Lake possessed knowledge, skills and versatility that made him stand out every time he took the field.
He scored 16 goals and had 16 assists. The senior scored three goals against both Howard and Mount Hebron, and scored the game-winning goal in the regional final against Brunswick.
Tod Downen of Centennial was the best defensive midfielder in the county.
The senior also scored 11 goals and had nine assists. He was skilled at flicking the ball into the goal with his head on throw-ins and corner kicks.
David Kelley of Atholton had an extraordinary season for the Raiderswith outstanding ball skills and hustle. Kelley scored 12 goals and had 10 assists. He made a nearly impossible shot from near the sideline in the final seconds against Howard to tie that regular-season game. He also scored two goals in the Atholton regional semifinal victory over Howard.
Fullbacks
Brian Thierrin of Hammond split his time between sweeper and forward, but no matter where he played, he wasa standout.
The senior scored seven goals and had four assists and played outstanding games against Howard, Wilde Lake, Centennial andOakland Mills.
Cullen Meade of Centennial was described by Coach Bill Stara as "the glue that held our defense together."
Meade wasstrong in the air and on the ground, and some coaches think he was Centennial's most valuable player.
Jarrod Moreland of Howard was the Lions' most feared player for his aggressive style of defense.
Keeper
Brock Yetso of Centennial was the difference between a successful state-championship season and a disappointing season.
The sensational freshman put on one of the all-time goal-keeping performances in a 2-1 win over Calvert Hall.
