CARTER'S SPECIAL MERIT

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Marylin Carter, a Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts' resident artist, received an award of special merit from the Sumi-E Society of America at their 1991 exhibition at the Summer Doorstep Museum.

Two of Carter's paintings are on display at the exhibition and are under consideration for the society's permanent collection.

Carter uses ground black ink for line, wash tones in a layered fashion to create mood, and the Chinese "moku" boneless technique for creating shapes. Her education includes post graduate studies in AsianArt History as Sophia University in Tokyo, Japan, painting under Yukio Kondo in Kujitashi, Japan, Hsu Hsien in New York City, and Sumi-E Master Anne Kobayashi.
