Man, 24, found slain in his home

THE BALTIMORE EVENING SUN

A 24-year-old West Baltimore man was found dead in his home this morning, apparently the result of being hit in the head with a hammer sometime overnight, city police said.

Police were continuing their investigation into the death of Michael Holland. He was found on the living room floor of his apartment in the 2200 block of Division St. by a relative at about 6:30 a.m. today.

Investigators said Holland apparently died from injuries to the head. A hammer was found lying near his body.

Family members told police they last saw Holland alive yesterday at about 11:30 p.m.

Police said there were no signs of forced entry into the home, but it had been thoroughly ransacked. It was not immediately known what, if anything, was missing.

Holland's body was sent to the state medical examiner's office for an autopsy.

Baltimore police said the homicide is the 254th they've investigated this year, two short of the number recorded by this time last year.
