THE BALTIMORE SUN

Despite suffering two defeats over the weekend in the Maryland Junior College Region XX Tournament, the Anne Arundel Community College volleyball team finished the season with its best record in eight years.

Losses to Essex, 6-15, 12-15, 13-15, and Charles, 8-15, 10-15, 11-15, left the Pioneers at 26-8-2 overall, 8-2 in the league. They placed second in the region.

"The last time we had a record that good was 1983," said Anne Arundel assistant Betty Hession, referring to a 29-7 mark under former coach Carol Taylor.

Severna Park graduates Jen Erlandson and Stacy Pirotte made first-team All-Region and All-Tournament. Pirotte also finished third in the All-American voting. The top two selections are chosen.

Both players have accepted scholarships to the University of Maryland Baltimore County.

"I'm really proud of them this year. They worked so well together," said Hession, who assisted first-yearcoach Bee Manley.

"In my nine years here, I've never enjoyed a team as much as this one."
