CO-ED GETS SCHOLARSHIP

Jennifer M. Mariner, 18, daughter of Les and Theresa Mariner of Sykesville, has received two four-year renewable scholarships from Salisbury State University.

She was given the $4,000 Richard A. Henson School of Science and Technology Scholarship and the full-tuition Presidential Scholarship. Both awards were based on Mariner's academic performance in high school and her results on the Scholastic Aptitude Test.

A 1991 graduate of South Carroll High School, where she was ranked first in her class, Mariner is a freshman majoring in biology at SSU. She also received the $12,000 four-year renewable Maryland Distinguished Scholar Scholarship, the $4,000 four-year renewable Mount AiryRotary Club Scholarship and the $2,500 Delegate Dixon Scholarship.

SSU is a four-year multipurpose liberal arts and professional university on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.

BUSINESSES GET AWARD

Three local business leaders received the Junior Achievement Bronze Star Leadership Award at the annual meeting of Junior Achievement of Central Maryland Inc. Oct. 24.

Dan Adams of Future Antiques, Tony Eckard of Eckard's Wallpaper and Paint and Scott Manoff of McShea and Co. received the award for their work in JA programs in Carroll County.

Award recipients are selected by the national board of directors of the program, which acquaints students with business and economics.
