AACC TUNES UP FOR TOURNAMENT

The Anne Arundel Community College volleyball team received strong play from its reserves in defeating Garrett, 15-5, 15-6, 8-15, 15-6, Saturday in preparation for this weekend's Region XX Tournament.

Leesa McMickle (Broadneck) and Melody Miller (Arundel) sparked the Pioneers off the bench with a combined eight kills. McMickle played a variety of positions, while Miller did her damage from the front row.

Also playing well were Severna Park graduates Stacy Pirotte and Jen Erlandson. Pirotte had seven aces and five kills, and Erlandson finished with nine kills.

Anne Arundel is 26-8-1 overall, 8-2 in theleague, going into Saturday's region tournament in Arnold. The Pioneers are seeded second behind Hagerstown and receive a first-round byebefore taking on Essex at 11:15 a.m. They have another match scheduled for 1:45 p.m., and if they lose, must play again at 3 p.m.
