The Greater BWI Commuter Transportation Center Inc, a private, non-profit organization sponsored by 30 BWI area businesses and Anne Arundel County, has been awarded a $60,047 grant to launch a "Guaranteed Ride Home" program for commuters who car pool or take public transportation.

The grants, funded by the Urban Mass Transportation Administration, will offer free emergency rides to qualifying employees.

Officials for the center estimate it will take approximately fourmonths to put the program into effect. The center will pay for a participant's taxi or rental car when an emergency arises.
