The Westminster boys and girls cross country team both finished second Wednesday in the Westminster Invitational at Western Maryland College.

It was the sixth straight year the Owl boys finished second in the race. Oakland Mills, which finished fourth this year, had won the race the five previous years.

It was Glenelg, also of Howard County, who came away winners of the boys race this year, edging the Owls, 77-93, while Frederick captured the girls race, 84-103, over Westminster.

In the boys race, Francis Scott Key finished eighth with 198 points, North Carroll was 10th with 241 points while South Carroll was 13th with 318 points and Liberty 14th with 337.

North Carroll's Matt Davis was the top county runner, finishing sixth with a time of 16:54.

Westminster's Jim Holford took eighth in 17:05 while Chris Zendgraft finished 10th in 17:07.

On the girls side, Liberty finished ninth with 264 points, followed by South Carroll in 13th with 302 points, Francis Scott Key in 17th with 420 points and North Carroll 19th with 478.

Westminster's Stephanie Morningstar -- in her first year running cross country at Westminster -- finished second behind Dulaney's Amanda White with a time of 19:42. White's time was 18:13.

Liberty's Jenn Myers finished in sixth place with a time of 20:29.
