The county commissioners have appointed Melvin Baile Jr. to serve a five-year term on the Carroll County Agricultural Preservation Board.

Baile replaces Edwin Rash, who completed his five-year appointment July 31.

Baile, 50, operates a 600-acre grain and sheep farm in New Windsor. He serves as president of the Carroll County Commodity Marketing Club and secretary-treasurer of the New Windsor Progressive Farmers' Club.

He is a member of the Carroll County Agriculture Center Boardand Carroll County Extension Advisory Committee.

The AgriculturalPreservation Board advises the commissioners on the status of agricultural districts and land easements and promotes preservation of agricultural land within the county.
