Looking for something to do after school? The Piney Orchard Ice Arena has an after-school skate from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays.

Other public sessions are Fridays from 8 to 10 p.m., Saturdays from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and 8 to 10 p.m. and Sundays from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

The ice arena will begin the first series of ice-skating lessons from 10:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Oct. 5. The lessons are available for adults and children ages 6 and older. The series will be held once a week for five weeks.

Skills will be tested weekly, and badges will be awarded upon completion of requirements. Program participants willbe issued a card good for free admission to six public sessions. Thecost for the first series of lessons is $35.

Participants must register at the arena at least one week before the lessons. Class size is limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Lessons, which follow Ice Skating Institute of America guidelines, are offered at the following levels: Pre-Alpha, Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, Freestyle and Introduction to Power Skating.

The monthly luncheon of the Fort Meade Retired Officers' Wives' Club will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Fort Meade Officers Club. The guest speaker will be Mike Klingaman, reporter and columnist for The Evening Sun. The cost is $7 per person.

Reservations are required by tomorrow and may be made through chairwoman Mae Hudson, 720-1085.

Reservations also are being accepted for the club's Oct. 17 trip to the Village at Meadowbrook in York, Pa.

This factory-direct shopping center is noted for clothing accessories, children's apparel, home furnishings and more. The $36 cost includes the bus ride, lunch and gratuities.

The bus leaves the club at 10 a.m. and will return at approximately 6 p.m.

Storytime is back at the county libraries, with a few changes.

Advance registration will no longer be required for Storytime sessions, but children under age 3 must be accompanied by a parent or care-giver. Parents of older childrenare also welcome.

In most instances, Storytime programs are repeated at each session in a given week.

Locations for Storytime in this area are:

SCORE/ACE Chapter 390 of Southern Maryland and the West Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce will conduct a one-day workshop, "How to Start and Manage Your Business."

The workshop will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 3 at the Seven Oaks Sales Center, 2110 Charter Oaks Blvd., Odenton.

The workshop is for those interested in starting their own business or for those who have just started a business.

The seminar will include presentations by both active and retired business people on such subjects as preparing a business plan, organization and record-keeping, marketing, insurance and sources of capital.

The workshop fee is $20.Registration and payment will be on the day of the workshop at the Seven Oaks Sales Center, beginning at 8 a.m.

The chamber also has araffle calendar for sale at $25. Calendar owners can win cash prizesof $100 to $500 each week of next year.

The calendars have individual numbers, and only 1,000 will be sold. Each week a number will bedrawn, and a check will automatically be mailed to the winner. Thereis no limit to the number of times a calendar owner can win.

Trim down before Christmas with a freeweigh-in program from 9:15 to 11:15 a.m. beginning Oct. 2 and every Wednesday until Dec. 18 at the O'Malley Senior Center, 1275 Odenton Road.
