WEPPNER FINISHES TRAINING
Navy Seaman Recruit Christopher J. Weppner, son of David R. and Winnifred W. Weppner of Darlington, had completed training at Recruit Training Command, San Diego.
During the training cycle, recruits are taught general military subjects designed to prepare them for further academic and on-the-job training in one of the Navy's 85 occupational fields.
The 1986 Harford Vocational Technical High School graduate joined the Navy in April 1991.
CLARK IS DEPLOYED
Navy SeamanRecruit D. Clark, son of George F. and Jo Ann Clark of Darlington, has been deployed aboard the guided missile destroyer USS Dahlgren, homeported in Norfolk, Va., in support of Operation United Task Force (UNITAS).
The operation, conducted annually since 1960, joins ships, aircraft and naval ground forces of the U.S. Atlantic Fleet with South American counterparts for a six-month series of combined naval warfare exercises designed to improve operational skills.
The 1985 graduate of North Harford High School joined the Navy in October 1987.
CONTRINO ENDS TRAINING
Army National Guard Pfc. Carl V. Contrino Jr. has completed training at the U.S. Army Infantry School, Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.
During the course, students received training that qualified them as light-weapons infantrymen and as indirect-firecrewmen in a rifle or mortar squad.
The soldier was an honor graduate of the course.
Contrino is the son of Sandra K. Bergum of Abingdon and Carl V. Contrino Sr., of Severn.
O'ROURKE ON DUTY
Air Force 2nd Lt. Kevin P. O'Rourke, a space operations analyst, has arrived for duty at Falcon Air Force Base, Colo.
He is the son of LaurelE. Ward of Bel Air and retired Air Force Lt. Col. Terence J. O'Rourke of Colorado Springs, Colo.
The lieutenant is a 1986 graduate of Bel Air High School and a 1990 graduate of Pennsylvania State University.
CADET ENTERS WEST POINT
Army Cadet Michael J. Karwatka has been accepted into the Corps of Cadets, Class of 1995, U.S. Military Academy, West Point, N.Y.
The acceptance ceremonies culminated six weeks of cadet training during which cadets were introduced to military life.
Karwatka is the son of Maj. Joseph and Nancy Karwatka of Edgewood.
He is a 1991 graduate of Edgewood High School.
