A robber sprayed Mace into a 22-year-old Annapolis man's face, then hit him with a bat or stick and took $150 from his pocket, Annapolis police said.

The attack occurred near Clay and West Washington streets about 2 a.m. Wednesday, police said.

The victim told police he was struck in the head and left leg as he tried to run away.

The victim, who provided police no description of the robber, was not hospitalized, police said.

Police have no suspects.


A Lothian man was charged with battery after an argument with a police officer Wednesday in Lothian.

Police said Officer Keith Hoffman was at the High's Dairy store on Route 4 when a man walked up to him and toldhim there was an abandoned car in the lot with the keys in it.

The man was staggering and had a hard time keeping his balance, the police report said. Hoffman went to the car and took the keys out. The officer told the man that he would return the keys to the owner.

The man became angry and grabbed Hoffman by his shirt, and they began struggling, the police report said.

Hoffman arrested Dean Ray Bolender, 26, of the 100 block of Lyons Creek Mobile Estates, and charged him with battery.

Hoffman found the owner of the car, and she saidshe had allowed Bolender to borrow her car.


A 16-year-old Severn girl was charged with battery after a woman told police the girl hit her on the head with a clawhammer Sunday in Pioneer City.

County police said the 43-year-oldwoman was standing on the sidewalk in the 1900 block of Arwell Courtabout 9:30 p.m. talking to friends when a girl walked up to her and hit her with a hammer.

After the officers questioned the victim, witnesses told them where the 16-year-old lived. The officers went to the home and found the hammer in a trash can, police said.

The victim was treated at North Arundel Hospital and released.
