* Jeff Ruland, 32, whose NBA career appeared over in 1987 when knee trouble limited him to five games, hopes to make a comeback.

Ruland, a former Washington Bullet, resigned a part-time coaching job at Iona College this year, recently had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee and is training in New Jersey, the Philadelphia Daily News reported.

Joichiro Tatsuyoshi, 21, of Japan stopped Gregg Richardson, 34, of Youngstown, Ohio, after 10 rounds of their scheduled 12-round fight in Osaka, Japan, and took the American's World Boxing Council bantamweight title.
