Beaupre leaves Caps camp jPB

For the third consecutive year, the Washington Capitals will conduct part of training camp without starting goalie Don Beaupre.

The goalie, who turns 30 today, left training camp because of a contract dispute. Beaupre, whose previous walkouts have also been because of his displeasure with his contract, is entering his option year.

"This is the third year in a row we've had a problem with Don Beaupre's agent (Ron Simon) advising Don to miss training camp," Capitals vice president and general manager David Poile said in a statement. "We're very upset."

Beaupre had a 2.64 goals-against average, as he helped the Capitals advance to the second round of last season's Stanley Cup playoffs, where the team was eliminated by the Pittsburgh Penguins. According to team spokesman Lou Corletto, Beaupre returned home to Minneapolis while talks between his agent and the Capitals continue.
