If you are interested in meeting and talking to professional bowlers, plan on attending the National Amateur Bowling Inc. tournament Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 5-6, at Forest Hill Lanes.

Locally, the tournament is known as the Judy Soutar Open. Soutar, one of the all-time great lady bowlers, will be at the event to do the color commentary for the televised finals. She will be joined by PBA members Charlie Tapp and Danny Wiseman of Baltimore.

Meanwhile, it's not too early to start thinking about the 28th annual championship tournament of the Harford County Women's Bowling Association. It will take place at Forest Hill Lanes on Nov. 2-3 and Nov. 9-10. The tourney will consist of singles, doubles, team and all-events. Handicap is 80 percent of 200. Entries must be in by Oct. 27. Applications can be picked up at any area bowling center. One other event coming up is the Maryland State WBA Queen's/Princess' Scratch/Handicap to be held Sept. 21 at Bel Air Bowl.

Most of the bowling leagues are off and running for the winter season, but at Fair Lanes Edgewood youngsters still have time to sign up for a late startingleague, the Snoopy Youth Bowling League. The league starts at 2 p.m.Sunday, Sept. 25, and runs for 26 weeks. It's open to bowlers ages 3and up. Bumpers will be provided for those under 8 years old. For more information, call 676-1380.

And for senior bowlers there's still opportunity to get in a league too.

"We still have openings in the senior leagues," says Peg Huffman, assistant manager at Edgewood Lanes. "The bowling industry is reaching out to the senior bowlers, and they're responding."

Senior leagues bowl Mondays at 10 a.m. and Fridays at 10:30 a.m.

A few updates from the summer on area bowlers: On July 14 in the 30th annual Harford invitational tournament, Tim Moor swept through the men's division undefeated, overcoming Eddie Barnard in the final match.

Brenda McCoy topped the ladies division, with Kay Conners runner-up.
