SASCHA'S SILVER SAC 527 N. Lovegrove St. Hours: 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. Phone: 539-6103. Call before 10 a.m. for same-day luncheon delivery and by noon for same-day dinner delivery. Saturday catering is also available. Although Sascha's no longer has walk-in carryout service, the gourmet food store is now specializing in an interesting concept: "Silver Sac" delivery. Orders are placed by phone only, and fixed prices include delivery to the general downtown area.
The attractive Silver Sac luncheon offers a novel and tasty alternative to the standard brown-bag lunch. At a cost of $8.50, customers will be sent a gourmet lunch in an attractive little silver shopping bag which contains a choice of entree, homemade potato chips, fresh fruit, homemade dessert and a beverage.
All Silver Sacs are embellished with a fresh flower. Everything is fresh daily and prepared on the premises. Customers have a choice of 10 sandwich items from the menu, which changes. Having often partaken of this deliciously different cuisine, I can highly recommend the following: Baltimore's Very Best Chicken Salad, smoked turkey with avocado and Russian dressing, tuna with fresh pesto sauce, caviar and egg salad and bourbon
honey-glazed corned beef with Swiss cheese.
Caesar salad with Sascha's homemade dressing and salad nicoise are featured on the light menu. A higher-priced ($10.50) executive menu offers a choice of sliced tenderloin with cognac mayonnaise, smoked Norwegian salmon or jumbo shrimp.
For those who cringe at the thought of preparing the night's repast, Sascha's has an assortment of elegant three-course picnic dinners for $12.50, which includes an appetizer, salad, entree (such as lemon chicken, steak salad, homemade chicken pie) and dessert. There is an assortment of desserts for both lunch and dinner, but the rich black bottom cupcake is by far the most popular.
