Traffic accidents claim two Construction worker, woman, 82, killed.

An 82-year-old East Baltimore woman and a 23-year-old West Virginia construction worker were killed yesterday in traffic accidents on opposite sides of Baltimore County.

Also, a county police officer directing traffic at the scene of one of the accidents was injured when hit by a car and was held overnight at the Shock-Trauma Unit in Baltimore.

The first fatal accident occurred shortly after 4 p.m. at 54th Street and Eastern Avenue in Colgate.

Police said the victim, Geneieve Agnes Szczepaniak of the 400 block of Angelsea St., was attempting to cross the eastbound lane of Eastern Avenue from north to south when she was struck by a 1986 Ford driven by Joseph David Krick, 29, of the 300 block of Shagbark Road in the Wampler Village Apartments at Middle River.

The woman was taken by ambulance to the Francis Scott Key Medical Center, where she died of multiple injuries a short time later.

Police said no charges were placed against Krick, citing pedestrian error as the contributing cause of the accident.

While police directed traffic around the accident scene, Officer Lucy McKeldin of the North Point District was struck by a car.

Police said McKeldin, a member of the police force for nine years, was taken to Shock-Trauma and treated for minor injuries. She washeld overnight for observation and was to be X-rayed today for possible internal injuries.

In Owings Mills, a construction worker from West Virginia was killed about 5 p.m. when he fell under the wheels of a pickup truck he was trying to board in the 10100 block of Reisterstown Road at St. Thomas Lane.

Police said the man, whose name was being withheld pending notification of relatives, was riding in one company-owned pickup truck when he jumped from that vehicle and ran ahead to board another company pickup truck.

As the man was grabbing onto several hydraulic hoses in the truck's bed to lift himself onto the vehicle, he lost his grip and fell under the rear wheels, police said.
