H. David Shumpert, a former vice president with Maryland National Bank, has been appointed president and chief operating officer of the Towson-based Bank of Maryland, which has 13 branches. Shumpert, who has 25 years of banking experience, replaces Bert Criste, who had been acting president since April. Criste continues as chairman and chief executive of the bank.


Joseph Galli has been appointed vice president of sales and (( marketing for Black & Decker's U.S. Power Tools Group. Galli joined the company in 1980 and previously was vice president of marketing for the group and vice president of sales and marketing for the company's U.S. accessories and fastening business.

* McCormick & Co. Inc. has named Bruce E. Weber plant manager of the Flavor Manufacturing Center for McCormick Flavor Group. Weber, who joined McCormick in 1989, previously was production manager at McCormick/Schilling Division's Hunt Valley plant.

Renate P. Filsinger and Richard Rosoff have been promoted ithe Corporate Internal Audit Department at McCormick. Filsinger, who joined the company in 1988 as an internal auditor, was named senior auditor and will assume a more active role in the planning and scheduling of audits. Rosoff, who joined McCormick last year as a staff auditor, will assist in audit planning and development of the audit scope.

Laura L. Paschall has been named McCormick's manager of Corporate Human Relations Services and will be responsible for a variety of company-wide human relations programs and activities. She joined the company in 1986 and most recently served as manager of Corporate Training and Human Relations Services.

Gilbane Building Co. has appointed Thomas J. Barnes to the position of chief estimator in the company's mid-Atlantic regional office. Barnes has been with Gilbane for more than 11 years and has previously held such positions as senior estimator and chief estimator.

W. Ronald Banasz, a certified management consultant, has )) been appointed director of the Management Services Advisory Department at Grabush, Newman & Co. PA, certified public accountants and management consultants, where he will focus on expanding technical and managerial consulting services offered to businesses. Prior to joining Grabush, Banasz was a principal in Banasz & Associates.

* Lori Kirk, a certified public accountant, has been promoted to the in-charge level at Katz, Abosch, Windesheim, Gershman & Freedman P.A. She is a member of the firm's Tax Department, where she specializes in depreciation in Maryland taxes.

Stegman & Co., a regional public accounting and management consulting firm with offices in Baltimore, Columbia, Greenbelt and Towson, has named Yolanda Bruno marketing coordinator. Bruno, who has been with Stegman since 1989, will be responsible for managing telemarketing projects, planning special events and executing direct mail campaigns for the firm.

Gray Kirk/VanSant has appointed Jane Seibert to design director. Seibert was previously senior designer at VanSant Dugdale for two years before the agency's recent merger with Gray Kirk & Evans.

Adams Sandler Inc. has named Susan Bruder assistant account executive charged with providing public relations services for the firm's technology, biomedical and governmental clients. Bruder was previously marketing communications coordinator for Raxco Inc., a systems software firm in Rockville.


Smelkinson SYSCO, the Jessup-based food service distribution firm, has promoted Dick Cohen to district sales manager responsible for training marketing associates in methods of developing new clients and maintaining current accounts. Cohen joined the company in 1987 as a marketing associate. Previously he worked for TGI Fridays.
