HMA Sales Associates, (formerly HMA Drapery Sales), a supplier of interior furnishing items to the commercial/contract industry, relocated its offices from Columbia to Upperco in Carroll County.

The Johns Hopkins University named Judith K. Broida associate dean and director of the division of business and management of the School of Continuing Studies.

Century 21 Gurney/Sellner and Regency Realtor. The father-son team of Jim and Steve Smith joined forces with Don Gurney and Donald Sellner. The newly merged company has its headquarters at 8541 Fort Smallwood Road, Baltimore. Warfield's won six awards in its division at the Association of the Area Business Publication's 12th annual Summer Conference. For the second year in a row, Warfield's won first place honors for General Excellence.

Kimberly Merritt, president of Kim's Khocolate, Inc. was chosen by the National Federation of Independent Business as the 1991 Young Business Owner of the Year.

Signet Banking Corp. won the bronze award at the 1991 International Astrid Awards competition for the design excellence of its quarterly shareholder and financial managers' statistical reports. Its video productions received two first-place

awards and one award of merit in the sixth Annual International Television Association/Virginia Video Festival. It won a gold award in the International Television Association/New England for "Providing Quality Service-PQS." It also won a bronze award for "Virginia: A Journey Home" in both national and international competition. The bank was awarded the Virginia Public Relations Medallion by the Old Dominion Chapter, Public Relations Society of America and the Richmond Public Relations Association for the most outstanding regular employee publication.

Barbara Brown's photograph "Picking Dandelions" earned Best of Show honors in the portrait division at the Maryland Professional Photographers Association. Ten-month-old Billy Chew of Stansbury Mill Road, Monkton, is the subject in the prize-winning photo.

Ron Roppelt of Baltimore was named Ryder Truck Rental's 1990 "Salesman of the Year."

Open for business

The Sports Authority, the Florida-based chain of retail stores, has opened its first stores in the Baltimore area at Price Club Plaza in White Marsh at 9919 Pulaski Highway, and Price Club Plaza, Glen Burnie at 575 Ordinance Rd.

Mabey Bridge Inc., based in the United Kingdom, has opened an office in Baltimore where its U.S. and Canadian operations will be based. It offers modular bridge design, ground equipment and support for highway and residential construction and utility work.
