Coach: Stacy Stem, second year Assistant coach: Ruth Lampert

Lastyear's record: 9-2-3 overall, Class 3A Region I finalist, 2-1-3 and second in the county, 3-1-2 and second in the Central Maryland Conference

Top returnees: Seniors, back Heather Fitzgerald, link Julie Langlois, forwards Audrey Van Norman, Erin Eaton

Top newcomers: Juniors, attacker Kim Post, back Kris Kinter

Coach's comments: "We lost six starters, which hurt, but seven seniors are back. Our attack is a little weak and we're missing a goalie, but we're full of confidence."

The Carroll County Sun's outlook: After a successful season, this team is full of confidence. If returnees and newcomers mesh, the team could do well in the playoffs. Like Liberty several years ago, theCavs program had struggled for a couple of seasons until Stem took over last year and help spark a quick turnaround. This season may be abit of a struggle, but Liberty, North Carroll and Oakland Mills all have dropped to Class 2A, so the Cavs' region appears a bit less demanding this year. It would not be a surprise if South Carroll wound upplaying in the state tournament at Goucher College this season. The junior varsity team, coached by one-time varsity mentor Ruth Lampert,is coming off a 5-2-3 season, so the newcomers should be able to continue the winning tradition Stem has rebuilt in Winfield.
